The Institute of Corporate Directors (ICD) is pleased to announce the launch of the ICD Newfoundland and Labrador Affiliate to support company boards and directors that play a key role in the business community.

“The founding executive of the ICD Newfoundland and Labrador Affiliate is very excited to launch ICD in this province,” states Brian Groves, Chair of the Affiliate. “Newfoundland and Labrador has a long history of producing great business people and it is nice to formally bring together the many directors we have in this province, including those from public companies, private companies and Crown corporations. This new affiliate will provide local directors with opportunities for learning, networking and building a community in Newfoundland and Labrador.”

The ICD, a member-based, professional association for directors and boards, has more than 4,200 members and nine local chapters in BC, Calgary, Edmonton, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Ontario, Ottawa, Quebec and the Atlantic.

“Effective directors can add significant value to one’s community,” says Stan Magidson, LL M, ICD.D, President and CEO of the ICD. “As Canada’s only professional association dedicated solely to the board director, the ICD is truly a national organization, committed to supporting its members in every region of the country.”

The ICD Newfoundland and Labrador Affiliate will host its first professional development and networking event for ICD members and non-members on October 7, 2010 in St. John’s. Attendees will learn about the evolving role of the director in today’s economic climate, how to expand their opportunities for directorships and what they need to know about their responsibilities and liabilities.
