Issues Management—Conflict with “Community”

More and more boards are grappling with managing conflict with shareholders, stakeholders, emerging and established advocacy groups, and communities. Our world has changed. The voice of the ‘community’ is strong and will not be ignored. How boards manage these issues will impact the organization’s reputation and future.

Whether you are a national organization like Hockey Canada or the Citadel Theatre in Edmonton, it seems inevitable that every board and board director will face questions such as:

  • What is my obligation as a director to be concerned with this issue? Is this issue noise’ or will it impact the organization’s strategic direction? What are the reputational and fiduciary impacts?
  • How do we manage the apparent concern or even seeming uprising of a shareholder, stakeholder, or advocacy group?

Please join us to learn how the Citadel Theatre board dealt with complaints of a safe and respectful workplace from the arts community in 2018.
