Lessons Learned from the Pandemic (Regina)

It's March 2020, and the World Health Organization has declared a world pandemic. Boards and Management across the country and the world had to make a complete shift. Board agendas morphed from strategy and long-range planning to helping management shepherd through the crisis. Staff, clients, suppliers, and many other stakeholders were looking for direction and answers.

Susan Barber, partner at McDougall Gauley LLP and chair of Sask Energy; Barry Clarke, Chair of the Saskatchewan Roughriders Football Club; and Grant Rathwell, President of the Canadian Mental Health Association (Saskatchewan Division), will share their insights on governing through the pandemic:

  • What was it like to be on the Board?
  • What was it like to report to the Board?
  • What worked? What didn't?
  • After the pandemic, how are they returning to "regular" strategic board discussions?
  • What did they learn from the pandemic to help them govern better in the future?
  • How can they plan today for another Black Swan event?
