Current Challenges Facing all Three Sectors of Canada's Economy

Every Director needs to bring to the board table three things:
  • Their own skills, expertise, experience, wisdom and judgement
  • A positive, sensitive, inquisitive and constructive attitude and approach
  • An awareness of what is happening (and what is likely or possible to happen) in the various environments in which their organization operates
The Institute of Corporate Directors’ Southwestern Ontario Chapter has presented four workshops and seminars this past year to assist participants with three objectives:
  • Leader character: presenting globally recognized work at Western’s Ivey Business School
  • Disruption: Friend or Foe? (a unique approach to risk management)
  • Blockchain 1: A primer on what it is and what it isn’t
  • Blockchain 2: Practical and legal implications for implementing blockchain applications
To conclude this series, the Hon. Bill Blair, federal Minister of Border Security and Organized Crime Reduction (and MP for Scarborough Southwest) will address the current challenges facing our country (socio-political, economic, technological, etc.) that impact all economic sectors with a focus on his areas of ministerial responsibility.

Minister Blair holds a BA from the University of Toronto with dual disciplines of Economics and Criminology, a certificate in Law Enforcement Administration (U of T) and a certificate in Criminal Justice (University of Virginia). He is a graduate of the FBI National Academy, the Police Leadership Program at the Rotman School of Business Management and the National Executive Institute.
Raised in Scarborough and the son of a police officer, Bill Blair learned at an early age that “serve” comes before “protect” for a reason. He served 39 years with the Toronto Police Force, the last decade as its Chief of Police.  He has demonstrated his ability to unite and engage others through his numerous roles in provincial, national, and international policing forums. He served as President of both the Ontario and Canadian Associations of Chiefs of Police, receiving the distinction of Commander of the Order of Merit of the Police Forces.
Note: We have structured this concluding session to also serve as a networking opportunity with your fellow directors from a wide range of other organizations across southwestern Ontario. Two complimentary drink tickets will be provided per person.
