From Good to Great : Recruiting and Preparing Directors for Success in an Uncertain World
As organizations operate in an increasingly complex, interconnected, and uncertain world, the world of governance is also evolving with expectations on boards quickly moving beyond compliance and oversight to shaping the future in a more strategic way. To effectively prepare for this future, boards need high-performing directors with the skills and experience, core personal competencies, and effective board dynamics to enable effective participation and facilitate independent contribution from diverse thinkers. While board composition has been a core area of focus for boards for some time, the profile for effective board performance, and how we need to think about director profiles as a result, has changed.
In this session, our experienced panel will explore topics such as:
• Trends in director composition, recruitment, and succession
• How the competencies needed for effective directors has shifted and may shift in the future, including the impact of different issues coming to the board table
• What boards and nominating committees should think about in their nominating practices as they think about these shifts
• Considerations for a thoughtful, effective recruitment process
• How the recent perception of DEI backlash might impact director nomination processes
• Practices for boards to consider in setting new directors up for success so they can contribute quickly and effectively
