The Savvy Nonprofit Board: Strategies for Effective Political Engagement in Uncertain Times
Most Nonprofit Directors need to have some degree of political savvy in order to succeed in their purpose. Social purpose organizations depend on government at all levels to provide both capital and operational funding for their purpose and mandate. Changes in political or social policies can profoundly impact an organization’s ability to fulfill its mission. Engagement with political or regulatory bodies and individuals is not a luxury, it’s a necessity.
Change in the political sphere is a certainty. Politicians and senior governmental representatives change roles and portfolios. And elections, economic status, geopolitical impacts, activism, etc., can result in dramatic changes in power, policy direction, and appetite for change and innovation. Consequently, engagement needs to be a continuous process.
So…. What is the Board or Trustees’ role in advocating for the organization’s purpose? What are the strategies for Board Directors, and what skills and competencies do they need? How does the Board work with the CEO/Management team?
The discussion at this webinar will address:
• Aligning the Board on a political engagement strategy
• Defining successful engagement outcomes
• Defining the Board’s role and Management’s role in engagement
