Rahul Bhardwaj Elected Chair of the Global Network of Director Institutes (GNDI)
Rahul Bhardwaj, President and CEO of the Institute of Corporate Directors in Canada (ICD), has been elected Chair, Global Network of Director Institutes (GNDI). GNDI is a global network representing more than 150,000 directors and focused on developing and promoting leading practices and programs that enhance the capability of directors to drive sustainable performance for the benefit of shareholders, the economy and society.
Mr. Bhardwaj has been a member of the GNDI Executive Committee for five years and has been committed to promoting excellence in corporate governance across the globe.
“I am honoured to be elected Chair of the Global Network of Director Institutes,” said Mr. Bhardwaj. “The challenges we face as directors – from the pandemic to climate change to artificial intelligence and digital transformation – are immense. It is critical that global leaders collaborate to advance our understanding of how better boardroom performance can drive better organizational performance and create better outcomes for our stakeholders.
“I am pleased to recognize the many lasting contributions of GNDI’s outgoing Chair, Peter Gleason, NACD CEO. Peter’s commitment to fostering collaboration among global director institutes sets a standard for future growth and leadership opportunities.”
Kirsten Patterson, Chief Executive of the Institute of Directors New Zealand and Jane Valls, Executive Director of GCC BDI in Dubai were elected co-Deputy Chairs of GNDI.
“It is a privilege and an honour to be elected co–Deputy Chair of GNDI,” Ms. Patterson says. “As one of the founding members of GNDI, the Institute of Directors in New Zealand is a strong supporter of international governance. I am looking forward to working with all the GNDI member nations to ensure global governance is strong, healthy and having a positive impact on how to address the global challenges we are facing.”
"I am delighted to have been elected co-Deputy Chair of GNDI and to work alongside Rahul and Kirsten,” said Ms. Valls. “I am very much looking forward to building GNDI as the recognized global leader on corporate governance, providing thought leadership and guidance to elevate board effectiveness."
As governance evolves to meet the challenges of a post-pandemic world, the role of the GNDI will prove to be critical. “I am looking forward to working with the GNDI community to develop and share best governance practices across the globe,” said Mr. Bhardwaj. “This is all the more critical in these uncertain and rapidly evolving times.”
